Question Fluxuating ping

I realize this should probably go into a diffrent forum altogether, but it really only effects Guild Wars. For some reason my ping rate will go from 97-350 in a matter of seconds. I've seen it as high as 1057. I have nothing that uses the internet running in the background. No, P2P, no browsers, no IM clients, and I've checked for virus/spyware/adware. I go and play WoW, ping is about 250, and it's smooth sailing, no lag, nadda. So what I can do to make sure Guild Wars gets the bandwidth (It's a hog), it needs?

That's normal, a lot of times my ping is 250-400 and it's still smooth sailing. And during the event weekends some towns can get 50k+ ping.

The ping isn't your computer, it's the server and depending on where you live can depend on the ping.

Also, major problems come from servers going bad. If it keeps getting in way you can e-mail ArenaNet and they will look into it.

For some, odd, inexplicable reason, lowering your graphics settings seems to decrease your lag. While this really should not work, it does.

Otherwise, contact your ISP and double check that you are not being partially blocked. I forget where the thread is, but appearantly the Guild Wars client appears similarly to a torrent client to the ISP, and so traffic is slowed.

I have to admit, I didn't think I'd get this many replies.

Zodiac Meteor: I wish it was smooth sailing. My ping goes up and my NPC teammates just spaz around. THey don't run or move anymore, they just APPEAR next to me as I do. I get into a fight it's like watching a fight between teleporters as I'm left running around trying to catch up.

Ariena Najea: My graphics are maxed out, I'll try lowering them, maybe that'll help. My ISP, which is Verizon, doesn't slow torrent downloads. I can download torrents as fast as 1.5MB a second, I have my upload limited, but I can upload at about 30-45k.

obsidian ectoplasm: Well I'm not going to give up. I'm going to keep looking into this, and if I find anything I'll let you know.

Thanks everyone, lets keep looking.
